Chorlton wins big in 1996
Graham Phythian kindly forwarded the newspaper article for the South Manchester Reporter from way back in 1996. Pictured you can see David Kierman, John Horner and Graham Phythian all with slightly more hair than they have now!
Chorlton since 1996 have won many trophies and due to fielding teams in virtually every division, cup and league going have consistently performed every season winning. We pride ourselves on giving even the most newest of our members a match at the soonest possible opportunity. There’s never been a better time to join and get involved in our club!

Chorlton chess club has had an excellent season after being relegated from Division 1 2008 – 2009 season. They have been promoted with two matches left. This was done recently in the Chorlton v Marple fixture where we won 5.5 – 0.5. The Chorlton chess club’s stockport league captain Alan Beresford is very pleased with this performance as we have only dropped one point all season. East Cheshire A has been relegated from Division one this season after finishing third from bottom to avoid relegation last season. They were our main relegation rivals last season.

The seventh club tournament is to be played next Tuesday 6th April 2010 at Chorlton Chess Club. It starts at 7.50pm sharpish.
Remember it’s the best 3 scores that win prizes! So far 11 people have played in 7 of the tournaments. There are 7 outright / joint winners this season so at the moment it’s anyone’s game.
Roll up to the club next Tuesday 6th April to make sure you’re in with a chance of winning a prize… or just turn up because it’s going to be great fun!
See attached this seasons results.
Hope to see you all there.
